Privacy Policy

PianoRanked collects as little as a website can: no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies of its own. This page says what happens to your information, and who else sees it.

Updated

Who is responsible

PianoRanked is run by Shahadat Shahi in London, United Kingdom, who decides what happens to any information the site receives. Write to hello@pianoranked.com about anything on this page.

Reading the site

Reading PianoRanked needs nothing from you. There are no analytics, no ads and no tracking scripts, and the fonts and photos load from PianoRanked itself. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, sees each visitor’s IP address and browser details to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. Cloudflare handles that under its own privacy policy (opens in a new tab).

Cookies

PianoRanked sets no cookies of its own. Cookies come from other sites only once you choose to go to them: Amazon, when you follow a button, and YouTube, when you press play on a video. Both are explained below. You can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings at any time.

The contact form and email

When you write through the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent as one email to the PianoRanked inbox, with your address as the one to reply to. They aren’t saved on the website or anywhere else, and they’re never added to a mailing list. The same goes for emails to hello@pianoranked.com.

Messages are used only to answer you (in the law’s terms, a legitimate interest), kept in the inbox for as long as the conversation needs, and deleted if you ask. To stop spam, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks your browser and IP address to tell a person from a bot.

Amazon

The “Check price on Amazon” buttons open Amazon.com. Each link carries PianoRanked’s Associates tag, and Amazon may place or read cookies in your browser to record that you came from this site; that is how it pays the commission described in the affiliate disclosure. Amazon and other advertisers may also use cookies to show you ads. Amazon’s side is covered by Amazon’s privacy notice (opens in a new tab), and you can turn off Amazon’s interest-based ads on its advertising preferences page (opens in a new tab).

YouTube videos

Some pages show the makers’ own videos. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. The video then plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and Google’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab) applies to it.

Your rights

You can ask what PianoRanked holds about you (at most, the emails you have sent), and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by writing to hello@pianoranked.com. Under UK data protection law you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (opens in a new tab). PianoRanked doesn’t sell or share personal information, and doesn’t use it for advertising.

Children

PianoRanked is written for adults choosing a piano, including for their children. It isn’t aimed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect their information; if a child has written in, ask and the message will be deleted.
